Intelligent tariffs, sometimes called EV tariffs, are electricity plans designed for electric vehicles.
They use smart meter data to adjust energy prices based on demand. This allows EV charging to happen at the cheapest times, usually overnight or during off-peak hours. Charging schedules are managed automatically by the energy supplier.
The result is lower charging costs without the driver needing to manage timings manually.
How Rightcharge works with Intelligent Tariffs
When a driver connects their energy supplier account to Rightcharge using their login details, we can see the exact on-peak and off-peak rates applied to each charging session.
This allows Rightcharge to calculate charging costs accurately, even when prices change throughout the day.
A note on supplier reimbursements
In some cases, an energy supplier does not provide an exact cost per kWh. Instead, they reimburse the charging cost after the session has completed.
At the moment, this approach is only used by OVO.
If any drivers are on a tariff where costs are reimbursed rather than priced per kWh, please let the Rightcharge team know so the correct setup can be applied.
