To use Rightcharge, drivers may need to connect their home charger, vehicle, and energy tariff. This requires sharing some information, so it’s reasonable to ask how that data is handled.
Short answer: Securely, minimally, and only for what’s needed to run the service.
Below is a breakdown of how data is managed for each connection type.
Energy tariff connection
When you connect your home energy tariff, Rightcharge uses your supplier login details to securely request access to your tariff information.
How this works:
Your login details are transmitted securely over an encrypted connection, similar to online banking
These details are exchanged once to obtain an access token
We do not store your login credentials
What we can access:
Tariff details and electricity rates only
What we cannot do:
Make changes to your energy account
View bills, payment details, or personal account activity
Once the connection is set up, Rightcharge keeps your tariff information up to date without needing your login details again. Your data remains private and is only used to calculate charging costs accurately.
Vehicle connection
When a vehicle is connected to Rightcharge, we receive charging and usage data directly from the vehicle integration.
This typically includes:
When charging starts and ends
How much energy is used
What this is used for:
Verifying business charging
Supporting fraud prevention where enabled
What we do not access:
Location history beyond what is needed for charging validation
Driving behaviour or personal journey data
Vehicle data is used only to support accurate charging records and reporting.
Charger connection
When a home charger is connected, it shares charging session data with Rightcharge automatically.
This includes:
Charging times
Energy used (kWh)
This data allows Rightcharge to:
Calculate charging costs accurately
Reimburse drivers without manual uploads
We do not control your charger or change its settings. The connection is read-only and limited to charging data.
In summary
All data is encrypted in transit
Login credentials are never stored
Access is limited to charging and tariff information only
Data is used solely to calculate costs, reimburse charging, and provide reporting
Rightcharge is designed to use the minimum data required, keep it secure, and be transparent about how it’s handled.
